Traveling by train is obviously one of the best experiences you can have while visiting Russia. Russia is the largest country in the world and has a lot of various railway destinations. The most popular destination is Moscow to St. Petersburg/St. Petersburg to Moscow. This Railway runs between the two largest Russian cities and through four regions: Moscow, Tver, Novgorod and Leningrad. There are 2 train types operating between the two Russian capitals – express and regular. It will take you about 5 hours to get from one city to another by express trains. Regular trains are designed to travel for long distance, some of them are faster than others. There are three types of carriages in regular trains: 1st (SV), 2nd (Kupe) and 3rd class (Platzkart). The 1st class has two beds in one enclosed room, the 2nd class includes 2 lower beds and 2 bunk beds in one enclosed room and the 3rd class has 4 beds in a non-enclosed area. Guard-stewards are at your service 24 hours. They also provide you with linen and make you cups of tea. There are several famous trains running from Moscow to St. Petersburg. For example, the Red Arrow is the most popular train, which in Soviet times carried the Communist Party elite between Moscow and Leningrad (the former name of St. Petersburg). This train even has its own theme song that plays as it departs from the station. This train departs daily. The Nikolaevsky Express is a special train with a very interesting retro design. On this train you can dive back into the times of the Russian Tsars. The train departs daily except Saturday. Grand De Lux is the most luxury train operating between Moscow and St. Petersburg. This train has 1st, Premium, Grand and Grand De Lux class compartments. This train departs daily. In Moscow, trains for St. Petersburg leave from Leningradsky Vokzal (Leningrad Railway Station) and in St. Petersburg, trains for Moscow leave from Moskovsky Vokzal (Moscow Railway Station). Ticket fares for most Russian trains are regulated by a dynamic pricing system. What is the main principle of the dynamic pricing system? The higher the demand and the fewer the seats, the higher the ticket price. The fare depends not only on the distance and popularity of the route, but also on such factors as: train category; - time of year, day of the week, time of departure, arrival, etc .; - the number of seats offered in the train; - date of purchase of the ticket (the number of days before the departure of the train). How often do the fares change? The system analyzes hundreds of different factors and, depending on the data received, periodically recalculates the cost. As a result, the ticket price may change within an hour or even a few minutes. For each direction, train and route section, a different pricing policy is applied. As the train fills up and approaches the departure date, fares on the main route may change up (or down, but it is rare). In most cases, the fewer days left before departure, the higher the price of the ticket.
